Sometimes your own company is the best company. For many of us taking a coffee break outside a beautiful Parisian cafe, watching the world go by is the ideal. We’re allowed to be with our own thoughts and ponder past and present events, we long for nothing more than to be in the present moment.
Painting details in the foreground and background are always important in my compositions as they can indicate to the viewer subtle narratives that can be construed in their own way, here the coffee has already been consumed and yet the sitter is content to stay at the cafe to be in her own thoughts.
